Meet a long time buddy of mine, Gerry Upward of Portage la Prairie MB.
For the last thirty years Gerry has had two primary goals;
- support & raise his large family - find a '56 Dodge to fix up & restore
Gerry & Marty have worked very hard to provide for their large family over the years. Gerry with his position as a engineering aide/office clerk for Manitoba Infrastructure & Transportation and Marty working at the local Clinic. All the while, Gerry had a keen eye open for a 50's - 60's Mopar that would be affordable as a project car.
After thirty plus years, the futile hunt for the above resulted in without a doubt the best "Gramma & Grampa Story" I have ever witnessed.
Enter this stunning 1970 Chevrolet Impala with 16,000 original miles!
Gerry's son stumbled upon this car on a local internet site. Like most experienced car searchers.....one gets skeptical after awhile especially when they advertise 16k on the odometer....you just assume that its 160 or 260k....why?.......because we've all been down this road before.
Gerry's wise curiosity initiated a phone call that would change his life. This baby was for real! This top of the line Chevrolet for 1970 was driven by the family grandparent who passed on in 1974. The luxurious 4 door hard-top Impala was then parked in the family garage where it remained until two short weeks ago when Gerry Upward & family rescued the old girl.
This elegant machine will grace the highways of southern Manitoba once more. She will proudly cruise the streets of Portage la Prairie with the occaisional weekend trip to show n' shines around the province. This pristine example of Chevrolet's finest could not have fallen into better hands. Gerry & Marty will provide the big Impala with the best home that it could wish for. The photos attached do not do this car justice. Do enjoy and don't hesitate to email Gerry gupward@gov.mb.ca and congratulate him on his recent find of NORTHERN GOLD !
