New York to St Louis

I have a black 1959 ford galaxie 500 2door hardtop. my obsession grew with 59 fords when i was a kid in the 80's and they were featured in the tv series "crime story". The policemen and detectives drove black 4 door cop car 59 fords and i thought they were the neatest cars ever and i knew i wanted one. I found a black 1959 ford galaxie on ebay two years ago in long island new york. (i live in st louis missouri) I ended up winning the bid on the car and me and my best friend drove to new york to get it. we left Saturday evening got into new york city around 2 on Sunday and turned around and headed back home and arrived home Monday around noon. so we took a 1100 mile roadtrip to pick up the car in a weekend. that's a story in its self lol. anyways long story short the car was a basketcase when i got it. the 352 engine(which was junk and i had to have it rebuilt) was a 61 mercury 352 and the cruiseomatic tranny was bad too. the body has the major rust spots being a new york car. my rockers are gone so im still in the process of restoring it so its no show car but i attached a pic anyways.
i hope this site will also help with a tech question i have. when i got the car somebody put a gm alternator on it and somehow bypassed the voltage regualtor with a wiring running from it to the battery so basically no power would go to the car unless that wire was hooked to the battery. when i got the motor back in the car i got a alternator and wiring from a 76 mercury couger out of a junkyard. so i have a new ford alternation with the wiring that came off the couger hooked to it and a voltage regulator. my own problem is i need to know how to hook it to the ignition. there are three wires. a big yellow wire, a green wire and a red wire with a line down the middle. being i spent a lot of money getting the engine and tranny rebuilt i dont want to hook it up wrong and fry something.
thanks
sincerely

Hi ! may name is Norton Bisetto and I live in the Southern part of Brazil.

This car in has a 292 engine, it  has 35.000  original miles on and was bought by a Famous Local coffee farmer, his farm now is a state reserve, the guy and his Brother they both flow to US back in 59  just to buy 2  new cars and luckily they choose 2 of those, the paper work  was made by a Local  Ford Dealer. They choose  manual transmission to be able to eventually use it in dirty roads in bad weather, he drove this car until the 90's, the paint job and interior are original and the car has not being restored .There are fill of them in Brazil but not in the same condition as mine. I do travel it a lot  to car shows around the Country and I did  won some prizes with, right now I am restoring it , the pictures are from before the job I am doing. It was necessary because of some "Farm Mice "  rusted some of the parts of the car back in the 60's I presume ! Unfortunately import taxes are very high here (60 %) and to by parts is difficult but worth the sacrifice to put it back together perfectly.
Nice site !

Thanks and best regards ! Norton.

Thank You Norton........what a beautiful car.

Thank you for keeping her alive my South American friend!

Karl Kaddy from Britain own this Cruiser and needs help!

Hi, I am e-mailing you from the UK. I have a 59 Galaxie / Fairlane 500. I'm located in a place called Bradford which is in West Yorkshire. I've only had the car for about 3 weeks and I'm lead to believe it's the only 2dr pillarless over here. I'm told it came from New Jersey originally. It was imported by a company in London called Dream Cars http://www.dreamcars.co.uk/ back in '86. Somewhere along the line it's been fitted with a '70's 302 engine. Apart from that it's pretty much original.  In the UK we have a yearly inspection called an MOT and I was wondering if you could help me. What I need is the Kirb Weight. Have you any idea what it is ? This is needed for a check on the brakes for the settings on the rolling road. Also do you have any web sites for spares ? I've tried Kanter but they seem quite limited on parts for this car. Any Help With These Matters Will Be Very Helpful. I have attached a couple of photos of my car for you. Best Regards Karl P.S. I also have a 54 Chevy and a 78 Cadillac.

David and Celeste Gray of Elizabeth City, NC.  own this beauty!
We are trying to be just a retired couple but things won't let us.  Right in the middle of all this, my cousin calls from Heathsville, Va and asks if I would like a crazy deal.  He's not a mechanic and I am, so he offered me numerous problems and a car I had fallen in love with 3 years ago.  So a friend of mine and I went up and flatbedded it back here. After numerous, wiring problems , a water pump, gas tank, complete tune-up, Ball Joints (all 4), idler arm, tie-rod ends and both power steering components.  I finally have a workable car with everything working, including the clock and radio.  It always had looked good.  Now it runs good.  It was assembled in Dearborn in August of 59 and all the codes match.  I do not know if it was ever restored or somebody kept it in a garage forever.  But it sure is in good shape for never being re-built in 47 years.  You have a great web site and I really enjoy looking at all the old cars, your hardtop retractable is just beautiful.  I never owned a 59 before I'm not quite that old.  I owned a 62, 64 and a 67 Ford Galaxie and a 71 LTD.   Thank you for posting it, I will send word of you web site to my family.
Sincerely, David Gray
Pleasure is all mine David........Thanks for keeping this old girl alive and well!

My old bud from Crows Nest Pass Alberta,  Phil MacDonald  owns these beauties.
The hardtop is a frame off restoration. It is finished in Colonial White top and Geranium bottom two tone paint. It is sporting a 352 cu in with 4V carb, 3 speed cruise-o-matic, PS, PB and factory dual exhausts. I purchased the car from the original owner down in New Mexico back in May 2002. It had 68,000 miles on it and had been sitting in the New Mexico sun since 1969 when the original owners quit driving the car. I spent the next 3 years doing a complete frame off restoration on the car. The car is spec original and really turns heads. Her name is Rosie!
The sedan is a third owner car for me. It is finished in Colonial White top and Torch Red bottom two tone paint. It too is a 352, 4V car with three speed overdrive and a 410 equalock differential, and factory dual exhausts. The car is a really nice driver that does need the paint freshened up but is still presentable. It has 71,000 miles on it which is actual mileage.
Great looking cars Phil, where is the Meteor hardtop now?
